Product & Fabric
Tied is where fashion meets function. Our pieces are made from collagen-infused fabric that’s rated UPF 50+, blocking 99.66% of UVB rays and 94.03% of UVA rays.
The fabric is lightweight, breathable, antibacterial, cooling, and naturally moisturizing, designed to protect your skin and elevate your outfit. No harsh textures, no sporty cuts, just timeless, sun-safe style.
Unlike some brands that choose fabric and test it after production, our material is engineered from the beginning to meet the UPF 50+ standard.
Every color, every silhouette, every piece is made with the same rigorously tested fabric, so you never have to guess whether you're protected.
While UPF 30 and above is considered good, UPF 50+ is the gold standard, and it’s what we build into every style.materials, so you never have to guess if you're protected. While UPF30 and above is great, UPF50+ is the gold standard, and it's what we deliver in every style.

Our fabric provides lasting UV protection through marine collagen peptides, which are derived from fish scales and integrated into the fibers using nanotechnology. These peptides absorb UV rays and strengthen the fabric, giving it a UPF 50+ rating that blocks 99.66% of UVB and 94.03% of UVA rays (tested to AATCC Method 183). This built-in technology ensures the protection doesn’t wash out or wear off, even after repeated use.
Our fabric is tested using the AATCC 183 standard, the U.S. textile industry’s recognized method for measuring UPF. This testing ensures that the protection is durable, reliable, and holds up through repeated wash and wear.
In addition to sun protection, our fabric offers moisture-wicking, cooling, antibacterial, and odor-resistant benefits, making it ideal for warm weather and everyday wear. It’s soft, breathable, and designed to move with you while keeping you protected and comfortable.
Our UPF 50+ protection is woven into the fabric—not sprayed on—so it won’t wash out, fade, or break down over time. Unlike cotton, linen, or lightweight fashion fabrics, our collagen-infused material maintains its UPF rating even when wet. While it's not designed for swimming, it dries quickly and continues to protect your skin when layered over a wet bathing suit. Backed by real-world testing and AATCC-certified standards, our protection is built to last.
Fit & Sizing
Our sizing is designed for comfort and flexibility. We offer combined sizes (XS/S, M/M, L/XL), and every style features adjustable ties instead of zippers or buttons for a flattering, custom feel. For fit guidance, check the size chart on each product page.
If you have questions, don’t see your size, or feel our current range doesn’t work for you, we’d love to hear from you. Whether you're looking for something smaller, larger, or just different, your feedback helps shape future offerings. Email us at wave@tiedsunwear.com.
Fit can vary depending on the style, so here’s what we recommend for our current collection:
- For the Lettie Top, Karie Pants, and Jill Shorts, we suggest sizing down for the best fit.
- For the Naomi Dress, and Georgie Top, we recommend sizing up for a little extra room and ease.
- The Sunwrap and Bandana are one size fits many and designed to work beautifully across body types.

Care & Wear
Machine wash cold with like colors and lay flat or hang to dry. Skip bleach, fabric softener, and high heat to preserve the integrity of the fabric.
Our fabric is quick-drying and remains UPF50+ even when wet. While Tied isn’t meant to replace a swimsuit or rashguard for swimming, it’s perfect for layering over a wet bathing suit and dries much faster than cotton or linen—while still providing full sun protection.

Sun Safety & Education
UPF 50+ is the highest level of sun protection available in clothing, blocking more than 98% of UVA and UVB rays. It helps prevent sunburn, premature aging, and long-term skin damage.
To receive The Skin Cancer Foundation’s Seal of Recommendation, a fabric must have a UPF of 50 or higher. While UPF 30 to 49 provides very good protection, UPF 50+ is rated as excellent. Every Tied style is made with our UPF 50+ fabric, so you can feel confident knowing you’re protected in every piece.
SPF (Sun Protection Factor) measures how long sunscreen will protect your skin from UVB rays, which cause sunburn. It’s used for lotions, sprays, and other skin-applied products. UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) measures how much UV radiation—both UVA and UVB—is blocked by fabric. UPF-rated clothing acts as a physical barrier against the sun, and UPF 50+ is considered excellent protection. While SPF needs to be reapplied regularly, UPF protection is built into what you're wearing. For more information, visit skincancer.org.
UVA and UVB rays are both types of ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun, but they affect your skin differently. UVA rays penetrate more deeply into the skin and are primarily responsible for premature aging, like wrinkles and sunspots. UVB rays affect the outer layer of the skin and are the main cause of sunburn. Both types contribute to skin cancer, which is why it’s essential to wear broad-spectrum protection—like UPF50+ clothing that blocks both. For more information, visit skincancer.org.
Most clothing provides only minimal sun protection, especially when it’s light-colored, loose-woven, or wet. UPF clothing is specifically designed and tested to provide consistent, high-level defense against UV exposure. Here’s how typical fabrics worn in the sun compare:
- Crochet: UPF 1 to 3, Very low protection
- Mesh: UPF 1 to 5, Very low protection
- Chiffon: UPF 1 to 5, Very low protection
- Linen: UPF 5 to 7, Minimal protection
- Cotton: UPF 5 to 15, Minimal to fair protection
- Tied Fabric: UPF50+, Excellent protection
Yes. You only need a small amount of sun exposure—like a few minutes on your face, hands, or arms a few times a week—to maintain healthy Vitamin D levels. You can also get Vitamin D from foods like salmon, eggs, and fortified products, or through supplements. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, it’s possible to protect your skin and get the Vitamin D you need without risking sun damage. For more information, visit skincancer.org.
Yes. Sun exposure is the leading cause of skin cancer, and UPF clothing is one of the easiest, most effective ways to reduce that risk. For more information visit cancer.org.
UPF 50+ clothing is one of the most effective ways to protect your skin—but it’s just one part of a complete sun protection routine. Dermatologists also recommend:
- Applying a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to exposed skin
- Wearing a wide-brimmed hat and UV-blocking sunglasses
- Seeking shade between 10 AM and 4 PM, when the sun’s rays are strongest
- Avoiding tanning beds, which emit harmful UV radiation
- Reapplying sunscreen every two hours—or more often if swimming or sweating

Our shipping materials are made from recyclable paper, and we’re working toward using biodegradable packaging for individual products by 2026.
The collagen component of our woven fabric is upcycled from natural sources and helps create a soft, breathable, and moisture-retaining feel. While our current blend includes polyester—which strengthens sun protection and durability—we’re working toward incorporating recycled polyester in future production. Thanks to our unique weave and collagen-infused fibers, the fabric stays cool and breathable, making it ideal for warm, sunny days without compromising on protection.
Natural fabrics like cotton and linen are often seen as sustainable choices, but they generally offer little to no UV protection—especially when lightweight, loosely woven, or wet. Other popular plant-based fabrics may feel breezy but aren’t designed for sun safety unless specially treated.
Tied’s fabric is intentionally engineered for UPF 50+ protection in every style and color, and it maintains that protection even when wet. We produce in small, thoughtful runs using high-quality finishes and construction methods that prioritize longevity—these are pieces made to last, not one-time wear. While our fabric includes polyester for durability and performance, it also contains upcycled components, and we’re working toward transitioning to recycled fibers in future production.
